Greetings & Blessing Lightbrights! I hope this week's blog find you refreshed and spiritually more aware from our topic on last week. It was certainly one that gave pause and caused us to rethink some things in our Christian walk.
Today I want to discuss a topic that is very popular among both the secular and Christian world. Everywhere we turn there is some form of manifestation talk especially in social media like Instagram and Tik Tok. There are a whole gang of self-confessing "spiritualist" and life coaches who promote the thought of self affirmation and manifestation. And the other side of the same coin-at least in my mind- are the prosperity teachers and preachers who say you can have your best life now, if you just sow seeds and name it and claim your blessings before God.
So which of these groups do you listen to? Do you believe in both or shun the other?
Are they both right in their thinking or is somebody wrong ? What if I told you both are lies from the enemy? Let's discuss and peel back the layers of this multi faceted lie.
The definition of affirmation is the assertion of a statement of the existences or truth of something. Manifestation means the sign of something existing or happening mainly by your will ,actions and especially your thought process. Simply put- I am or I have because I think it, so if I believe it strong enough it will be or come to pass. At surface level neither of these seem wrong, they sound very positive, however it's the intent and the power behind it that should be studied and looked at.
As Christians we should put into practice affirming what God has revealed about us to us in His Word. Colossians 3:2-5 tell us to "Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God." This means everyday we should and can affirm the things of God over our life. You should be affirming that Christ has set you free from sin, you are His and made to do good works to glorify our Father in heaven. See, the source of any Christian is not in their own ability but thru the Holy Spirit which Christ sent to us. We can't affirm and not believe, then that would just be vain empty words with no spiritual substance and have no effect in our life-no fruit. An example of Christian affirming would be someone that deals with anxiety, depression or thoughts of not being where they should in life --would be to combat those thoughts- take them captive as the bible tells us , test that spirit and then use God's words over that situation. We are constantly plagued with uneasy thoughts, feelings of worthlessness etc, and it's in those times that we have to remind ourselves of what God has declared of us and what Jesus has already done for us. Again- we don't just affirm ourselves of what we think, but we go back to what the bible says. There will be times we don't have the words to convey our feelings, pain or thoughts- but we have the Holy Spirit as our Comforter and the word of God as our light and lamp to our feet in those dark moments.
Now here is the difference.. the world would tell you to change your thoughts to happy thoughts, positivity and to manifest where you want to be. Meaning you're in that dark place because you want to be there, or something you have done or thought and that you need to just envision yourself in a better place. There is even the practice of creating vision boards or repeating certain mantras every morning that are supposed to propel you to that better place in life. But in these manifestations God is no where in the mix. It's all about what you want, what you think is best, etc. Plainly put it's all about SELF.
The source of greatness within myself is not a new concept. It started with Lucifer.
In the book of Isaiah 14: 13-14 we get a good look at Lucifer's manifestation rant as I call it. They are also known as the "5 I Wills". Isaiah prophesied that Lucifer said 1) I will ascend into heaven. 2) I will exalt my throne above the stars of God. 3) I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation. 4) I will ascend above the heights of the clouds and finally 5) I will be like the Most High. Lucifer's sinful thinking and manifesting was so skewed he fell from glory and took a third of the angels with him. This is a grave warning to not believe the "coaches" that tell you your I will's will manifest something great when you are leaving out God and not consulting His will for your life. Those things may indeed find you or be given to you but you can guarantee the Source would not be of God, come from God or eternally benefit your life. You've heard the saying, " The devil gives good gifts too"? Well there is some truth in this statement. When Jesus was in the wilderness for 40 days, Satan came to tempt Him. One of the temptations he tried was telling Christ that if He would fall down and worship him then he would give Him all the riches and power of the earth. Jesus rebuked him, but what He did not say was that it wasn't Satan's to give.. So God has allowed Satan some limited power, the bible calls him the God of this world--the carnal world, with all its temptations, lust, riches, greed and power. Satan often gives these incentives to those that choose him on this side in this life. But those things will be fleeting at our death and will have no value in eternity and will cause eternal separation from God if you choose Satan or yourself over Him.
Jesus said in Mark 8:36 What good or profit is it for someone to gain the whole world BUT lose their soul? Or what can one give in exchange for their soul?
Remember that other side of the coin- the prosperity preachers I mentioned ? These are those that teach and believe that the Christian life is to be easy, rich or wealthy and have all the good things on this side. We serve a great God, so why shouldn't we have we want, right?? They grossly overlook what Jesus said. Jesus warned us that we would suffer persecution, would not be liked by the world, and we would sometimes suffer greatly for Him, but that we would receive crowns of righteousness and walk on streets of gold on the other side into eternity. That does not mean that a Christian cannot have wealth, nice jobs or homes or a prosperous life- but it does mean that we don't treasure those things over God! We seek the kingdom and rely on God not our own manifest thinking to provide for us. We don't believe just because I put a lot of money in church that God is going to make me rich , or I "sowed" a seed therefore now I can have whatever I want. No, instead we give cheerfully to God and His Kingdom and to those we see working to advance the gospel, help their communities and the poor. This is spiritual banking here! We will reap rewards eternally not just on this side but in the life to come.
Again the intent and motive is what is important here.
I implore you today to throw out any secular self-help books, thoughts and ideas that are not 1st grounded in the word of God.
Stop looking to IG and TikTok influencers that tell you to seek all these things now.
Don't heed the word or listen to preachers who are really wolves in sheep clothing who tell you to sow into their ministries that you know is not about the kingdom of God or expanding the gospel.
Don't buy their books, or their prayer cloths or anointing oil, or outrageously priced conferences, retreats and seminars.
These are all lies from the pit of hell. Instead pray to God for discernment. Spend time in His word . Greatly enhance your prayer life. Daily affirm His words and seek His will- for this you will never be led astray or lead down a path to the other Source- which is our eternal enemy.
Today, make the choice to ask God to reveal His will and wants for you.
His plan is far greater and more rewarding than you could ever dream.
Books like the Secret, believing in crystals, tarot cards, horoscopes, praying to or consulting ancestors are just tools the devil uses to distract you and steer you away from the true Source.
Don't let Lucifer's "I Wills' disguise itself as manifestations in your life.
He is a lie and the father of lies.
You have been warned.
Heed the message.
Until next time, Keep Shining
